Mise-en-abyme
“Mise en abyme” is translated as “placed into abyss”, known as creating infinite recurring sequence of an image within itself.
The steel structure is in fact half-constructed with steel curves. However, depending on the viewing spot, the mirror could create an illusion of a steel trap, fully encaging the translucent text MISE EN ABYME. The letters were actually created by destroying the mirror surface, making them translucent and see-through. Interacting with the viewers’ reflection, it plays with the contradiction between visual constraint and textual expansion, perhaps a deception between modes of representation and perception.
